Practice Philosophy | I believe in the intelligence and innate wisdom of the human body and mind. It is my philosophy that during our early stages of life we are programmed to learn and that our inclination to learn as complex, sentient beings is non-discriminatory. If our bodies are transmitting pain, illness, and dysfunction to us it is simply letting us know that in order to experience health, vitality, and higher functioning, changes in how we use and treat our bodies are required. With our current culture and lifestyles re-teaching our whole bodies through massage and bodywork to rest, relax, and restore is an ideal therapy.
Why I do what I do | In my mid-teens I fell in love with exercise, fitness, nutrition, and anatomy. My very first job was at a local gym. Nothing gave me such empowerment and joy as connecting with my own mind and body through fitness and nutrition. However, as the years passed these passions took a backseat to raising and providing for a family. I slipped into poorer and poorer habits which ultimately resulted in Myofascial Pain Syndrome, a condition in which there are highly irritable localized spot or spots of exquisite tenderness in muscle tissue which cause the surrounding fascia (thin, translucent membranes that envelopes and separates mucsles like shrink-wrap) to get tight and inflexible resulting in pain and dysfunction. After a mis-diagnosis and my own research I found massage to relieve my pain and restore function. This discovery, so-to-speak, coincided with other events which garnered the question of a new career for myself. "Armed" with personal testimony and a renewed enthusiasm for self-care, therapuetic massage and bodywork became the obvious choice!
A little bit about me | I am a single mother of two awesome children, residing in the East Bay of the San Francisco Bay Area. I consider it a humbling privilege to provide my fellow-man with therapeutic touch!
